UGANDA TO HOST NAM MINISTERIAL MID-TERM REVIEW CONFERENCE
Having successfully held the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Heads of State and Government in January 2024, the Government of Uganda will host a Midterm review meeting at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) from 13 – 16 October 2025 at the Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence”.
The Government, through its various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, is in advanced stages of preparation to ensure a successful conference. We shall host Delegations from the Member States, Observer Countries, and Observer Organizations of the NAM. The meeting aims to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting the members of the NAM, which include:
1. NAM’s relevance amid rising geopolitical tensions; address threats to development, peace, security, human rights, rule of law.
2. Centrality of the Palestine issue; defend longstanding NAM positions; uphold international humanitarian law and UN resolutions.
3. Concern over Gaza humanitarian crisis: casualties, displacement, destruction, siege; call for immediate relief and UNRWA support
4. Call for full implementation of UN General Assembly ES-10/27 (12 Jun 2025): end blockade of Gaza, open borders, facilitate humanitarian aid; support Egypt and Qatar in ceasefire efforts.
5. Poverty eradication as a core UN 2030 Agenda objective; need a revitalized global partnership; implement the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Sevilla Commitment, and SDG 17.
6. Strengthening multilateralism and reform of global governance (UN, financial architecture, MDBs) to reflect current realities and Global South needs.
7. Acknowledging Africa’s historical injustice, call for greater Africa representation in a reformed UN Security Council (Ezulwini Consensus, Sirte Declaration).
8. Importance of regional/sub-regional cooperation: industrial development, trade, investment, technology transfer, job creation.
